Car Maintenance

Fixing Tires:

1. Loosen the lug nuts while the car is on the ground.

2. Use a jack to lift the car.

3. Remove the lug nuts and the tire.

4. Replace with the spare tire, put the lug nuts back, and tighten them.

5. Lower the car and tighten the lug nuts fully.

Fixing Brakes:

1. Lift the car and remove the tire.

2. Remove the brake caliper by unscrewing the bolts.

3. Remove the old brake pads and replace them with new ones.

4. Reattach the brake caliper and the tire, then lower the car.

Replacing Windshield Wipers:

1. Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield.

2. Press the small tab on the underside of the wiper where it meets the wiper arm.

3. Slide the old wiper blade off.

4. Slide the new wiper blade on until it clicks into place.

1. Engine Oil: Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it, and pull it out again to check the level and color.

2. Coolant: Check the coolant reservoir level against the markings on the side.

3. Brake Fluid: Check the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir.

4. Transmission Fluid: Check the level with the car running and on a level surface using the dipstick.

5. Power Steering Fluid: Check the level in the power steering fluid reservoir.

6. Windshield Washer Fluid: Top off if necessary.

1. Lift the car and place it on jack stands.

2. Remove the oil drain plug and let the oil drain into a pan.

3. Remove the old oil filter and replace it with a new one.

4. Replace the oil drain plug and fill the engine with the recommended amount and type of oil.

5. Check the oil level with the dipstick and add more if necessary.

Maintenance Guide: Refer to your car's manual for specific intervals for oil changes, tire rotations, brake checks, and other maintenance tasks.

1. Park the working car close to the dead car without touching.

2. Turn off both cars.

3. Attach the red clamp to the positive terminal of the dead battery.

4. Attach the other red clamp to the positive terminal of the good battery.

5. Attach the black clamp to the negative terminal of the good battery.

6. Attach the other black clamp to an unpainted metal surface on the dead car.

7. Start the working car, then try to start the dead car.

8. Once the dead car starts, remove the clamps in the reverse order.

1. Drive slowly and allow extra time to stop.

2. Accelerate and decelerate slowly.

3. Increase your following distance to 8-10 seconds.

4. Know your brakes: whether you have anti-lock brakes or not, the best way to stop is threshold braking.

5. Don't stop if you can avoid it; there's a big difference in the amount of inertia it takes to start moving from a full stop compared to how much it takes to get moving while still rolling.

6. Don't power up hills, and try to avoid stopping on a hill.

7. If you do start to skid, steer in the direction you want to go.

1. Remove the wheel from the bike.

2. Deflate the tire completely.

3. Use tire levers to remove the tire from the rim.

4. Remove the tube and inspect the tire for damage.

5. Insert the new tube into the tire, partially inflate it to give it shape.

6. Place the tire back onto the rim, starting at one side and working your way around.

7. Fully inflate the tire and reattach the wheel to the bike.

Fixing a Flat Tire: Follow the steps above to replace a bike tire.

Adjusting Brakes:

1. Locate the barrel adjuster near the brake lever.

2. Turn the barrel adjuster to tighten or loosen the brake cable tension.

3. If the brakes are still not properly adjusted, use an Allen wrench to adjust the brake pads and calipers.

Fixing a Slipped Chain:

1. Shift the bike to the smallest ring on the rear derailleur.

2. Lift the rear wheel and turn the pedals to get the chain back on track.

House Maintenance

1. Locate the breaker box in your home.

2. Identify the tripped breaker (it will be in the middle position or off position).

3. Flip the breaker fully to the off position, then back to the on position.

4. Check if power is restored. If the breaker trips again, there may be an issue with the circuit.

Changing Lightbulbs:

1. Turn off the power to the light fixture.

2. Remove the old bulb by unscrewing it.

3. Screw in the new bulb and turn the power back on.

Maintaining Water Softeners:

1. Check the salt level in the brine tank regularly.

2. Refill with water softener salt as needed.

Simple Pipe Repairs:

1. Identify the location of the leak.

2. Turn off the water supply to the affected pipe.
